What are Internships? By definition, they are the position of a student or trainee who works in an organization, sometimes without pay, to gain work experience or satisfy a qualification requirement.

#1 ​Advantage Testing Foundation TRIALS​ is the product of a unique partnership among Harvard Law School, NYU School of Law, and the Advantage Testing Foundation. It is a residential summer scholarship program for students of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds that are currently underrepresented at the nation’s leading law schools. 

The program aims to help talented students of modest means gain admission to these schools by providing intensive LSAT preparation and broad-based exposure to diverse aspects of the legal profession. ​The instructional component of the Trials program consists of rigorous preparation for the LSAT including (1) a step-by-step analysis of every question type on the test, and (2) an intensive testing regimen in which students refine their skills on actual LSATs administered under simulated test conditions. 

Snapshot of Requirements: 

- Students of modest means from backgrounds currently underrepresented at the Nation’s top law schools 

- Particular consideration given to candidates attending colleges that traditionally send no more than one graduate per year to the partnering law schools

#2 ​Established in 2001, the​ King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) Winter Session​ is a unique initiative that helps college students from underrepresented communities prepare for the law school admissions process. In addition to providing mentoring and pre-law advising during the school year, the program hosts eligible college juniors and seniors for a series of weekend sessions in which students gain valuable knowledge about the law school admission process, learn writing, analytical, and logical reasoning skills, develop study techniques for taking the Law School Admission Test (LSAT), and explore career paths available to law school graduates. 

Snapshot of Requirements: 

- Currently, attend, or have recently transferred to, a 4-year college with 1 or 2 years before graduation OR have graduated from a 4-year institution within past 12 months - Considered a first-generation college student OR come from an economically underserved community or background defined as having a household income less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty guidelines 

- Cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher 

- Intend to apply to law school, but not currently in the process of applying for 2021 enrollment 

Benefits: 

* Attend workshops on pre-law preparation and law school admissions * Attend presentations and panels featuring UC Davis law school professors, alumni attorneys, and law students 

* Participate in individual pre-law advising with School of Law Admissions Staff to develop law school admission action plans

The award-winning ​Donald J. Weidner Summer for Undergraduates Program at the Florida State University College of Law ​brings undergraduate students from throughout the country to campus for a month-long immersion into the legal study. 

The largest and oldest of its kind, the primary goal of the program is to acquaint students with the study of law and to assist them in acquiring skills that will benefit their undergraduate and future law school studies. 

During the 4-week program, students will engage in activities covering three primary areas: Classroom Experience; Law School Admissions Process; Careers in the Law 

Snapshot of Requirements: 

- Only rising sophomore, junior, and senior college students enrolled at 2-and 4-year institutions, in all majors, and from all backgrounds following freshman year - Students from groups historically underrepresented in the legal profession are welcome 

- Students who have earned a bachelor’s degree prior to program start are not eligible 

Benefits: 

* Free room and board in residence-hall accommodations, course materials, and a stipend provided to all participants

The​ Pre-Law Summer Institute for American Indians and Alaska Natives (PLSI)​ is an intensive 2-month program that prepares American Indian and Alaska Native individuals for the rigors of law school by essentially replicating the first semester of law school. 

The PLSI concentrates its content into eight weeks of instruction, research, and study, teaching students the unique methods of law school research, analysis, and writing. 

The course load consists of three substantive law courses, including Federal Indian Law and two first-year core curriculum subjects which vary from year-to-year. Participants also will take an advocacy/legal writing course in which they will prepare a complete appellate moot court case including writing a legal memorandum and brief, and presenting an oral argument at the end of the program. 

PLSI is funded on a year-to-year basis, dates and deadlines are contingent on money being available for the program.

- Any American Indian or Alaska Native who plans to attend law school in the fall after attending the summer program of PLSI 

Benefits: 

* No tuition or other charges to qualified participants to attend the Institute * PLSI provides a modest living allowance when funds permit (amount of allowance, when it is provided, depends on the number of qualified participants admitted)

The ​University of Alabama LSAC Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars program (“PLUS”) offers a unique and unforgettable experience for college students who are interested in the legal profession. This rigorous 4-week program is designed to prepare students for law school or a career in the legal profession by helping them to develop essential core competencies needed to succeed in these areas. The program is primarily directed at undergraduate college students from groups that are underrepresented in the legal profession. 

During the program, the University of Alabama PLUS Scholars will be enrolled in several core courses which combine lecture, guest speakers, and visits to law offices and courts. Students will also network with practicing lawyers, judicial representatives, and law school admissions and career counselors. 

Snapshot of Requirements: 

- College students who have just completed either their first or second year - At least a 2.5 GPA 

- Students currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program - Students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree are not eligible 

Benefits: 

* $1,000 stipend (paid out in installments throughout the program)

The ​University of Akron Law Prelaw Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program​ offers an innovative and supportive environment for students with diverse backgrounds who want to explore a legal education. The program is designed for students in the first two years of college. 

During this 4-week program students will: 

Experience the law school classroom, while learning how the law impacts our daily lives; Visit courthouses and meet lawyers and judges, so you can explore various career paths in law; 

Learn about the law school application process and be positioned for success; Gain the confidence and skills needed to enroll and succeed in law school 

Snapshot of Requirements: 

- Program is focused on, but not restricted to, college students from underrepresented groups 

- Currently enrolled college students with at least 24 and no more than 72 credit hours completed 

Benefits: 

* Program is provided at no cost to students 

* $1,000 stipend
